Come Alive Concert

My home church (Idlewild Baptist) in Tampa Florida recently hosted a concert featuring Christian recording artist Mark Schultz. The show was sponsored by a local radio station - the JoyFM.

It was awesome to see my home church turned into a rock concert. The band was very energetic.

The opening act was Josh Wilson. He was a one-man band. He had a way of recording different tracks of instruments and layering them on top of each other. He was good, but everyone was there for Mark Schultz.

Mark came on stage and spent the first 15 minutes talking about World Vision and other ministries he supports. I thought that was cool since I recently started to sponsor a World Vision child from Guatamala.

After a short intermission, Mark began performing a 90 minute set. He played all of his hits and many songs from his new CD.

One special thing he did was recognize current and former members of the military before he palyed a video that he was asked to perform at the Pentagon. It was the first time that the Pentagon had asked a Christan group to perform there.

He shared a lot of stories form his life and how he got started in writing and performing his music. A lot of his songs are inspired from real events (children with cancer, an elderly couple who 'adopted' him, how he allowed God to finally 'write' his songs, etc).

A funny part of his show was when he started to sing the song "Shout". When he go to the 'low - quiet ' part of that song, he surprised everyone by singing the lyrics to the song 'PANTS ON THE GROUND' (which was recently featured on American Idol).

The crowd loved that.

It was an enjoyable evening.

To keep the memory alive, I bought some CD's so that I can enjoy his music on my IPOD.
